IT

There is a somewhat undefined thing happening in my heart.  I’ll call it IT.

IT began a long time ago. Maybe in the pains of unfortunate events that we all endure in life. It could be summed up as a desire to help others who are suffering.  Upon committing my life to Him, the IT became more clear.  I knew almost immediately that I wanted to go to school for a better understanding in how to help others who are suffering.  It continued after I got married as I  have been unable to shake the…

Losing and Renewing the Mind

086

Does anyone else out there have a  flighty brain?

Do you feel that it is on the run and you can hardly catch it…for me…sometimes I can hardly find it!

The apostle Paul says, “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2).

We are transformed by the renewing of the mind.

But what if we’ve lost our minds?!

Seriously now…perhaps that is…

to the high and lofty one who lives in a high and holy place…

but also with those who are contrite and lowly in spirit.

“You are the high and lofty One, who inhabits eternity, whose name is holy.

You live in a high and holy place but also with those who are contrite and lowly in spirit,

to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the hearts of the contrite.”

Who Is The Rock?

icy_trees_with_sun

I ironed his clothes. I ironed theirs. I ironed mine.

I made breakfast, skipped the shower, dressed and fed the little people in the house and pulled together a snack for a hungry crowd of fellowshippers.

I planned Sunday School, read over the sermon and encouraged him.

I got up REAL early but I was STILL behind. I had caused my husband to be later than he’d like.

After almost two years of being a pastor’s wife, I have it ALMOST down to  a science on being able to get it all together on Sunday morning…just me…on time.

That feeling…

Quote For The Weekend…Beauty From The Stuff That Makes Us Weep

Screen-Shot-2012-09-20-at-3_30_48-PM
“Any fool can be happy. It takes a man with real heart to make beauty out of the stuff that makes us weep.”
Clive Barker, Days of Magic Nights of War

We should say…it takes a real woman to do that too…

And that real man or woman’s heart is first tranformed by Jesus Christ.

When the movie, Les Miserables, ended, I wanted it to stay dark in the theater.  I didn’t want people to see my heart bursting out of my chest.  Thankfully, there were a few others moved in…

Waiting It Out In A Rain of Grace

DSCN2516

She jumps into the car beaming to be going to her friend’s house for the first time in a month.  Red dress and purple leggings bursting with cuteness.  I…looking forward to much needed one on one time on the riverfront with the boy.  Reading books and waiting for trains.  A promise he had looked forward to all day.

We plan.  We hurry.  We get there. I turn the handle of the door.  She looks down. A tear. Pout.  A lament. A whine.

I steam underneath.

Plans shattered. Boy shattered. Friend shattered.

I want to…

Wishing You a Year of Witnessing God’s Work of Renewal and Restoration

DSCN1931

Why do we think in years in terms of starting fresh?

Why do we wait…sometimes…to start anew?

I ask this question without having an answer.  I’m just finding that I’d prefer to live in a way that thinks of each new day as a fresh start…as fresh as a new year.

Lamentations 3:22-23 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

But as humans we mark time don’t we?

We are nourished when we to look back on a segment of…

Beyond the Nativity, A Four Week Devotional on the Incarnation, Week 4: The Importance and Rewards, Day 5: Christ is King

Vasari, Giorgio, The Nativity, c. 1546

nativity 4.5

Through the incarnation, we are able to see clearly, the Son of God, as our King.  And I suppose we should say He has always been King.  But the incarnation shows us our King in the flesh and allows us to hear others proclaim it and Himself proclaim it.  For me, seeing the scriptures that declare Christ as King spanning the Old Testament through the New Testament renews a sense of joy and awe in me…it brings…

Acts 2:22-23, 32-33, 36-38

22 “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs that God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know— 23 this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men.

32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand…

Romans 9:3-5

“3. For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my brothers, my kinsmen according to the flesh. 4 They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises. 5 To them belong the patriarchs, and from their race, according to the flesh, is the Christ, who is God over all, blessed forever. Amen.”
