Last week I had the opportunity to take in some incredible beauty at Carlyle Lake, Illinois.  My family roasted marshmallows at sunset at a picnic spot that my husband’s family visited often in his childhood years.

As the sun went down, the beautiful backdrop to all that was around me became brighter and more glorious. All that was around me became dark.

We turned toward the light and I snapped some shots.

I didn’t have a tripid, so in order to get these shots I had to hold very still.  My family had to hold very still.

Calm. Patience.  Stillness.  Rest.  Almost impossible with a 4 and 7 year old!

But they did it…they turned toward the light and became still.

Last week I wrote about how the Rivers of Living Water have been given to us in receiving the Holy Spirit and how they continually quench our thirst for righteousness, goodness, refreshment and love.  If we are in Christ, the Holy Spirit who IS the Rivers of Living Water is in us.

Is it really that simple? To just turn back again towards Him? To continually look to Him?

An easy thing that can seem hard at times.

John 7:37-38

“37 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

John 6:35

35 Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

John 8:12

12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

As we go through the book of John each Sunday morning in worship, I see more and more that this belief in Jesus that the Lord is calling us to as it is shown to us in the book of John is…a continual turning towards him.

Belief…more than just words and mental acknowledgement of Jesus…but a finding our satisfaction in Him.

Our thirsts quenched by his Rivers of Living Water, our darkness being flooded with light as we turn fully toward Him and our hungers satisfied as we satisfy ourselves with the Bread of Life.

God may be never more glorified when we find our satisfaction in Him.  Our lives glorify Him as we turn toward and live in His light and away from the darkness.  That is the abundant life He wants for us.

Turning toward His light today…trying to be still…calm…patient…to find satisfaction in Him and His thirst-quenching, hunger satisfying light.
